Upcoming Gardening Events

Garden Team Meeting
Every Late Start Wed. (2nd Wed. each month) at 4pm
Location: Upstairs in Wynne Brown's Classroom

Parents, students, staff and teachers are all welcome.  Come with questions or just an interest in our garden and garden program, and how we can integrate it more fully into our children's lives at Bryant.
We will be creating a garden leadership team for the 2017-18 school year, to begin to address garden sustainability.  We are looking for at least three more volunteers (part of a team of five or six), plus a staff liaison to the garden, to oversee the growth and maintenance of the garden, and decide on priorities.  It would also be wonderful to have a middle school student involved in directing our efforts in the garden.  Not everyone needs to be a gardener, since planning, organizing, fundraising/grant writing, administration and outreach are all important parts of our garden, too.  Please come to the meeting for more information, or contact Lilith Piri at genericbusiness@gmail.com.

The Garden Team

The Garden Team at Bryant is an all-volunteer, open group that welcomes family, teacher, student, and community participation.  Our goals are to bring hands-on environmental education to the students at Bryant Montessori, to create beautiful, lower maintenance green space for birds, butterflies, students, and the community to enjoy, and to reach out to community members to help bring stability and usefulness to our edible garden beds in the growing season.

Stay in the loop and hear about garden news and volunteer opportunities—large and small—by joining the Bryant Garden Email List.  Email garden team leader Lilith Piri at genericbusiness@gmail.com to join.

Why Gardening is Important at Bryant

Hands-on learning in the garden has a strong Montessori correlation.  And, why not learn first-hand about geometry, plant, and animal life-cycles right on the school campus?

Research shows that children make healthier and more adventurous eating choices when they connect the garden to the table.  Research also shows that time spent in green spaces can lower stress and aggression, and help even those with ADD focus and concentrate more effectively.  School gardens have a measurable, positive impact, and there are examples of school gardens having a strong positive effect on their surrounding communities as well.
